In Memoriam of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
21st April 1926 - 8th September 2022
We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty The Queen. On behalf of Councillors and the Clerk I express our sincere condolences to His Majesty The King and the Royal Family at this the saddest of times.
The Queen lived a long life defined by selfless service to her people both within the UK and other nations. She carried out her duties with dignity and devotion for over 70 years right up until the end. She provided stability and unity like no other during times of crisis through to times of celebration. During the Platinum Jubilee Willaston came together as a community to celebrate and give thanks for a remarkable reign, which will live on in our memories for many years to come.
Her grace was timeless, her knowledge and experience as head of state was unmatched. She met more presidents, prime ministers, monarchs and undertook more state visits than any other which gave her a unique prospective and immense wisdom.
On the eve of her 21st birthday the then Princess Elizabeth said “I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service”. This vow she embodied each day of her life which has been an inspiration and example to us all.
And so the great Elizabethan age has come to an end. She was for many not only The Queen, but our Queen, although history will undoubtably know her as Elizabeth, the Great.
Speaking in the days following 9/11 The Queen said “Grief is the price we pay for love”. Her people loved and respected her. So we join together - unified as one community, one nation, one family in mourning her loss and giving thanks for her truly remarkable life.
