 Duke of Edinburgh Banner

"We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh. On behalf of Councillors and the Clerk I express our condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family. Prince Philip dedicated over 80 years of service to the Country, firstly as a naval officer and for the past 69 years as an active consort to the sovereign. His dedication to the youth will be one of his lasting legacies through establishing the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and his patronage of the National Playing Fields Association for 64 years. This will have a lasting effect, as can be seen with countless established playing fields across the nation including our own in Willaston which was founded in 1952.

The Union flag at the war memorial was lowered to half-mast at the announcement of his passing and will remain at half-mast until the morning after the day of his funeral to observe this period of national mourning".

A national book of condolence is available online at the Royal Family website.
