Lettie Spencer Playing Field 

Wybunbury Road, Willaston, CW5 7JF

Willaston Parish Council owns and manages the playing field and has done so since 1952.  The playing field was opened on 29th May 1954 by England and Manchester City goalkeeper Frank Swift and Rose Queen Dorothy Waring. The playing field is named in memory of long serving councillor Lettie Margaret Spencer.

Opening Times

The playing field is open and available for use throughout the year as per the following times as resolved by the council.

  • November to February 7:30am - 5:00pm 
  • March 7:30am - 6:00pm 
  • April to May 7:30am - 7:00pm                
  • June to August 7:30am - 9:00pm 
  • September 7:30am - 7:00pm 
  • October 7:30am - 6:00pm
                              
Outside of these times the playing field is closed and
not available for permitted use.
The council reserve the right to close the playing field at
any time and without notice.
 
Times are subject to change dependant on
Councillor availability.

The playground area and zip wire are open but with the following Covid-19 controls in place as instructed by central government:

  • Ensure that hand sanitiser is used before and after using each piece of equipment

  • Social distancing of 2 metres to be maintained – Only 1 child on any piece of equipment at any one time except for the see saw

  • Fair use of all equipment to be allowed. Please be considerate for users waiting

  • No food or drink to be consumed within the playground area

Playground Area Update

Phase 1 of playground works have been completed during October 2020.

This included the removal of 3 pieces of aged play equipment. The installation of 3 new pieces of comparable equipment. The safety surfacing around each piece of new equipment has also been replaced.

We are now waiting for the confirmation of a start date for phase 2. This phase will include the removal and replacement of tarmac surfacing within the playground area, ball court and access drive. The ball court will also be marked out and floor graphic games will be added into the playground area. The pendulum swing will also be replaced.

The zip wire is currently out of use whilst it is awaiting repair and tensioning.

We are pleased to have installed new goal nets in March 2021. 

We hope residents enjoy using them.

Bylaws & Rules

Bylaws are in place with regards to the playing field: Willaston Parish Council Playing Field Bylaws

Please help us to look after the playing field by taking note of the following:

  • No unauthorised motorcycles, cars, other motorised vehicles or horses/ponies allowed
  • Dogs must be kept under control at all times
  • Dog owners must clean up after their pets and use the bins provided
  • Any litter should either be placed in the bins provided or taken away for appropriate disposal

No right of way exists between property boundaries and the Playing Field. The only route of access and egress is via the main gates on Wybunbury Road.

Persons contravening the above regulations or found doing wilful damage to the playing field are liable to prosecution.

Please treat the area with respect and show consideration for other users and the Councillors and volunteers that manage the playing field.

Members of the public using this playing field and the facilities do so at their own risk.
