Willaston WI Sign Restored to Mark Anniversary
Situated on Mike Heywood Green, the Willaston WI Sign has become a focal point of the village, although many people are unaware of its origins. 1970 marked the 21st birthday of the Willaston Branch of the Women's Institute. To commemorate this event the WI commissioned a wrought iron ornamental sign to be installed on the Green and gifted to Willaston. The sign was unveiled on the 2nd November 1970 by the President of the Willaston WI and Chairman of Nantwich Rural District Council.
The sign was due to be restored by the Council in 2020 ahead of its 50th anniversary but due to the pandemic this was rescheduled until spring 2021. Pictured below are the President of Willaston WI, Marion Proudlove and the Chairman of the Council, Cllr Craig Bailey who met on the Green to inspect the newly restored sign.
